Claude's native connectors

- Where it stops:
- No Sheets, Docs, Slides, Contacts or Tasks connector at all. One Google account at a time.
Google's official MCP servers
- Setup:
- A Cloud project, sixteen service enablements, your own OAuth client
- Covers:
- Eight products, and they write deeply. Sheets, Docs and Slides all take batch updates.
- Where it stops:
- Developer Preview. Eight separate endpoints to configure. Their own Gmail server cannot send, reply or forward.
This gateway
- Setup:
- One URL, one Google sign-in
- Covers:
- Gmail, Drive, Sheets, Docs, Slides, Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, plus Jira and Confluence on the same endpoint.
- Where it stops:
- We are a third party in the path. No Google Chat tools. Self-host if that trade is wrong for you.
Use something else when
- Calendars or file management are the whole job. Claude's native connectors cover both better than we do, and they are free.
- You need Google Chat. Google has an official Chat MCP. We have no Chat tools.
- A third party in the path is disqualifying. That is a real answer, and self-hosting this gateway is the version of us that respects it.
Questions about the hosted endpoint
Do I need a Google Cloud project to use a hosted Google Workspace MCP? #
Not for this one. You add one endpoint and sign in with Google, and there is no Cloud project, no OAuth client of your own and no per-product endpoint to wire up. Google's own official MCP servers are the other route and they do ask for that setup: a Cloud project, sixteen service enablements and your own OAuth client when we checked on 24 August 2026.
Which Google products does the one endpoint cover? #
Gmail, Drive, Sheets, Docs, Slides, Calendar, Contacts and Tasks, with Jira and Confluence on the same endpoint. The gap worth naming is Google Chat: DataToRAG has no Chat tools, and Google has an official Chat MCP if that is the job.
Can it change a file, or only create new ones? #
Change them, and that is the line this page is about. Changing a cell in a spreadsheet you already have, writing content into an existing doc and putting content onto slides are the three jobs where the built-in connectors stopped when all three surfaces were enumerated on 24 August 2026.
When are Claude's native connectors the better answer? #
When calendars or file management are the whole job. The native connectors cover both better than DataToRAG does and they are free, and as of the 24 August 2026 enumeration their Google surface is Gmail, Calendar and Drive, with no Sheets, Docs, Slides, Contacts or Tasks connector and one Google account at a time.
What if having a third party in the path is not acceptable? #
Then run it yourself. The DataToRAG gateway is open source and self-hosting is the version of it that answers that objection honestly, rather than the one that argues you out of it.
